Read moreIn 2019, architect Kate Wrigley, was living in Colombia whilst working for the Mayor of Bogota. After discovering the country’s incredible craftsmanship, she began to spend her weekends travelling to visit artisans along the country’s Caribbean Coast. She couldn't believe that such beautiful techniques had been passed down for generations and yet their work remained mostly unknown outside of their communities. Determined to share the incredible stories and pieces she had discovered with friends back home, Kate soon began working with her first artisan in the tiny village of Usiacuri.
Today, The Colombia Collective works with over 800 artisans from 30 different communities. Each of these has their own culture, identity and story that forms a fundamental part of their work. The name ‘The Colombia Collective’ is an advocation of our desire to work collectively with the artisans and also to shine a light on Colombia as a country and celebrate its remarkable crafting heritage. It is through constant collaboration and learning with these artisan communities that we bring you the completely unique collections you see today.
We pride ourselves on maintaining a unique balance of modern design with ancient techniques to create timeless and classic pieces that are made to last a lifetime. From homewares to accessories, our collection of Colombian treasures is a true testament to the vivid and diverse culture of the country.
We love to celebrate nature, natural materials and the beauty of imperfection and feel that it is those naturally imperfect textures that really add character and help bring a home or wardrobe to life. Whilst our collections are varied, one thing remains constant: our desire to showcase the true beauty of Colombian craftsmanship throughout. Discover our collections of Homewares & Accessories here.
As a small team of four, we are able to work closely with our artisans across Colombia. We are in communication on a daily basis (for those with consistent internet connection) or as much as possible to suit the needs of the artisan group. This allows us to share new design ideas, techniques and manage the logistics of our orders.
Once an order has been completed by our artisans, they are then shipped to our warehouse in Bogota, where our lovely colleague Nubia quality checks, sews in our branded labels and prepares our products to ship to our distribution warehouse in Bristol. From there, all of our online orders are distributed worldwide to share the joy of Colombian craftsmanship with all of our wonderful customers.
We work with communities from a range of localities, climates and distinct cultures - head to Our Artisan page to find out more.
